APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Linda Collins asked for approval of last meeting’s minutes; approved by Joan Mino and seconded by Dom Plati

OPEN SESSION:  No report.

CENTRAL WESTCHESTER VICARIATE: No report.

SCHOOL REPORT:   Mrs. Salamone reported that enrollment for the 2010-2011 School year seems to be steady.  There will be 28 students graduating this year.  The State tests have been given for the year.  This year Grade 6 was added.  The School has made the administering of pre-tests part of the curriculum.  The pre-tests show where there has been improvement or where it is needed.  She also reported that a concert will take place on Thursday showcasing the 50 students in Grades 3-8 who participate in Band.  The 7th Grade held a Car Wash to earn money for the 8th Grade Party.  Approximately $600 was earned.  The School put on the play, Through the Looking Glass, this past weekend.  Students from Grades 1-8 performed under the direction of 6th Grade teacher, Mrs. Federico.  So far there have 150 responses from Alumni for the 50th Anniversary Party.

SPIRITUAL LIFE AND LITURGY:  No report

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY:   Sue Alleva reported on behalf of John Alleva that the next Children’s Mass would be held on Sunday, June 6th.  This Mass will honor 2 members of the Children’s Choir, who will be going off to college.  The Mass held in May centered on the Crowning of Mary and the First Communicants.  The Annual Trip to Playland will take place on June 17th.  There is no change in the bus fee this year and walk-ins must now pay a fee to enter Playland

COMMUNICATIONS:  No Report

HOSPITALITY:  Bette Schillberg reported that the last Coffee Hour held on May 16th was very successful.  This Coffee Hour honored Sr. Mary Landon’s Jubilee with a special cake, flowers and poster.  Sister was thrilled to have the opportunity to spend time chatting with some of the parishioners.  The last Coffee Hour for the year will take place on June 20th.

PARENTS CLUB:  Virginia McCarthy reported on behalf of the Parents’ Club that the $2,500 of the money they raised this year will go toward the new sign.  Field Day will be held this coming Thursday.  The Tag Sale from Saturday made a profit of about $2,500

FINANCE COMMITTEE:   Bill Otto reported that the Committee met last week on May 17th.  He distributed to the Council members copies of the Financial Status covering 9/1/2009 through 4/30/10.  Operating income for the Church is down compared to last year at this time because bequests were higher last year.  The School Income shows that it is ahead of last year largely due to the surplus being held for summer salaries.  This year also shows less support from the Parish.  The last of School tuitions are collected in May.  Regular collections are slightly behind last year.  Holy Day collections and the Capital Fund seem to be on pace compared to last year.  In regards to the outstanding loan from the Diocese, the Committee does not plan on making another payment right now.  Proceeds from the Bicentennial Campaign are at $241,415 so far.  Topics discussed at their meeting were:  review of income/expense statements, review of capital accounts and performance, review of capital projects such as replacement of the boiler and conversion to gas in the Convent, leak from the radiator in upstairs bedroom of the Rectory, re-staining of wood trim on church building, repair of roof leak damage to ceiling and cupola above altar and replacement of two entry doors in the School.

PASTOR’S REPORT:   Msgr. Carney reported that a study of the use of electricity in the School and Church showd that usage was down due to the new lights but the price is now higher.  He spoke to the owner of Mr. Sign and a proposal for the sign was approved.  It will be three lines: Sacred Heart, Church and School, Hartsdale.  The company believes that the hedges are too high and the tree too large where the sign will be placed.  Permission is needed from the State as well as the Town.  The price given in the proposal does not include installation or taking down of the old sign. We will go ahead with this project and all agreed.  Msgr. also reported that a sprinkler systems will be installed on the site of the Central Avenue School garden.  It is being donated by the company where one of our School Alumni works.  There were two trees that feel on the Church property during the winter storms that broke gutters on the Church.  It will cost $9,000 to fix.  He is looking for the insurance company of the tree owners to cover the costs of repair.  Msgr. Carney stated that he is looking forward the School’s 50th Anniversary of Sacred Heart School Graduating Classes Party.  He noted that Joan Cashman is sick and needs hip surgery.  We will have refreshments at our last meeting in June.

Motion to adjourn was at 8:26pm made by Linda Collins and seconded Alan Zale.

Our next meeting will take place on June 28, 2010

    Respectfully submitted by JoAnne Kohn
